We are back from Germany and the 2016 InterTabac Tradefair. This show has consistently surpassed any and all expectations we have had for it, and this year was no different. So let’s take a minute and review our time in Germany and our part in this very exciting and unique Tradeshow!
Without a doubt, Germany is one of the best countries in Europe to visit. Social Smoke has always enjoyed unprecedented success there, the people are kind, intelligent, and always willing to support our product. The food and BEER are addicting!! Dortmund is a city of beautiful architecture and long standing history, and walking its streets was the absolute best way to get to know the city and its culture. The only negative comment we had about this trip is that the days were a bit foggy and that it was a bit chilly.
We expected this show to be busy, fun and unique…and it didn’t disappoint. Messe Westfallenhallen is a huge venue and it was filled to capacity with large and extravagant booths representing tobacco companies from all over the world. The activities and shows planned and presented were fun and promoted the atmosphere of excitement and business possibility that this show is famous for.
Social Smoke location and booth
Our booth was located in Hall 8 Stand F.08. It was centered towards the front of the hall and received a steady stream of traffic throughout the whole show. To be honest, it wasn’t the greatest or worst location. We were accessible, but people had to work to find us. The booth was set up with a front reception area, a back meeting area, and a great hookah bar/service center. Overall, it was an awesome layout and functioned well with public traffic in the front and in depth meetings in the back. Honestly one of the best booths we have done thus far!
Our booth was swamped! Our CEO and CFO were busy with continuous back to back meetings all three days, and our SS partners were always busy sampling our products and talking with customers and business owners. But, because the venue is massive and spread out, it was difficult to to judge the amount of attendees to the show. We were just happy to stay busy.
Blends we sampled
Along with our standard popular blends like Watermelon Chill, Voltage and Pear Chill, we sampled the final production ready version of Cucumber Chill. We also gave out per-production samples of Speculous, a Belgian cookie flavor, and a new Cigar Vanilla Blend.
Compared to last year
We always try to do better at Social Smoke and make an effort to learn from our mistakes. We feel that this year, we had a much better booth and booth placement compared to last year. We were better staffed this year and were equipped to handle customer inquiries and meetings. We knew what to expect and worked hard to improve our showing this year.
Plans for Next Year
InterTabac has become an extremely important trade show for us, and has helped to expand our name in the European market. We have already committed to attend next year and want to improve as we go along. This years booth, although quite large, was at times a little small so we hope to expand it a bit. We also hope to have a few more team members and a better system to capture visitors information, and schedule appointments.
Overall the show was a huge success. In Europe the demand for Social Smoke Tobacco greatly outpaces the supply. Usually the first thing we hear from a visitor is that they love Social Smoke but it’s never in stock. This is obviously a huge issue for us as we’re missing out on sales and our customers are unhappy. It is our goal to remedy this situation in 2017.
In Germany, we have already been working on a solution utilizing a logistics partner to handle all importing and custom clearance. Ideally, this solution should allow us to sell to both local and regional distributors and even large stores and bars that can handle purchasing a minimum of 1000KG per order directly from the factory in Dallas.
